Principal’s Message

Hello MHS,

Looks like Spring has finally sprung!  We held our viewing of Screenagers last week and wish to thank the parents/guardians who attended and to Mr. McFarlane for facilitating this event.  It was really nice to engage and talk with our parent community about youth mental health and screen time and to share our experiences at MHS.

We also welcomed our new families and students at our Open House.  Thank you to Council for supporting both of these important outreach events, and a very special thank you to the owners of Café Gravity for their generous donation of coffee, which was very tasty.

We look forward to our many upcoming year end activities and to sunny days ahead.

Enjoy your weekend.

Mr. Martin

2024-2025 Option Forms

Next year option forms will be coming home this week with students.  We will be sending the option descriptions to parents through school messenger this week, so please keep your eye out for this.

Please discuss the options with your student, as their choices will be adhered to as much as schedules will allow.  No option changes will be done after options are set.

Parents/Guardians need to sign the option form agreeing to the options their student is choosing, as well as agreeing to the fee that is associated with the option.  Some options have a higher set fee depending on the costs required to run the option.  All option forms need to be returned by Thursday, May 16

Students have more of a chance of getting some of their top choices by turning their forms in by the deadline.

Learning Commons News

LC Lunchtime Club: We are continuing with yarn crafts this week.  Students can choose to continue with finger knitting, or instead learn the basics of knitting with knitting needles.

Mondays:  Grade 6

Tuesdays:  Grade 5

Wednesdays:  Grades 7-9

Thursdays:  Grade 4

Book Highlights:   Does your child love escaping to alternate worlds when they read?  Do they insist of having magic, dragons or vampires in their novels?  Then they will love that fantasy novels are our genre highlight this month.  Beloved characters such as Harry Potter, Percy Jackson and even Edward Cullen can be found battling wizards and mythological creatures, but there will also be many new favourites waiting to be discovered.

Riddle-Me-This- What activity will take up the month of May, can require some intense thinking but can also be a lot of fun?  Riddles!  Students can pop by anytime to solve a new daily riddle and surprise themselves with their mental agility.

Favourite Book Finder: If your child would like help finding a book that they love, click on the link below to access a fun questionnaire that will lead them to a customized list of books that we have in our collection.

Grade 9 Market

The Grade 9 Market will be held at McKenzie Highlands School on Thursday May 16. The grade 9’s will be using their knowledge from Math and Social to create a business plan, market for a product, survey, calculate costs, and sell a product. We will be in the gymnasium and outside throughout the day selling items to all members of MHS. The total amount made at the Market will go towards the grade 9 farewell.
