One of the most important ways parents/guardians and community members can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on the school council. Under the Education Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory and decision-making authority defined within the Education Act and the School Councils Regulation. They are different from Parent Societies & Associations, whose main function is to raise funds for the school. You can find more details in the CBE School Council Handbook.

About Our School Council
The McKenzie Highlands School Council is a strong and active parent body that is integral to our school’s operation and success. School Council works collaboratively with the school administration and staff to significantly enhance learning opportunities for students. It is often through School Council that parents are first asked for feedback about new things that are being considered. It also provides an opportunity for parents to learn more about the school, support initiatives and to provide input.
Meeting Dates for 2023-24
All meetings begin at 6:30 pm, followed by the Parent Association meeting. All guardians and parents of students attending McKenzie Highlands School are members of both groups and are welcome and encouraged to attend meetings. Meetings will be held at MHS in the staffroom.
Agendas for the meeting can be found on the school website or the MHSPA Facebook page.
