Important Upcoming Dates 

Track & Field – Wednesday June 5 

It is the last athletics event of the school year!

Track and Field will be on Wednesday June 5 at Foothills Athletic Park (2431 Crowchild Trail, NW).

If your child has successfully earned a place on the track team they will be given the form with all the details on Monday.

*Important: This form MUST be filled in, signed and returned to the PE department on Tuesday, June 4.  No form, no track!*

Please Note: We only have one bus for transport to and from Foothills this year so we are asking that parents/guardians please make arrangements to provide transport where possible. We will only have space for about 50 students on the school bus.

The fee for track is $15 and this must be paid in cash at the PE office please.  

Students must also have an MHS track team shirt which is $10. This fee is also to be paid in cash please. If your child already has a track shirt there is no need to purchase another but please make sure that they have it with them on Wednesday.

All participants will need to bring plenty of water, snacks, a packed lunch and appropriate clothing for competing.

Spring Arts Gala 

Come enjoy an evening of the arts, on Thursday, June 6 from 6:00-7:30, put on by our talented MHS students! 

The evening will include food and beverages prepared by the foods students, art exhibits and displays prepared by our art students, musical performances by our grade 9 band students, and a production of the play Whodunit by our grade 9 drama students.  

Entrance to the gym will be through donations to our arts programming here at MHS (as small or as large as you would like 😊). Please come and enjoy as we celebrate the students’ hard work! 

Calgary Transit Update 

For those students who take Calgary Transit to and from school.  We engaged with Calgary Transit and are pleased to inform families they have extended the pickup time at dismissal to support our bell schedule starting September 2024. The bus will now arrive at 15:23, giving our students an additional five minutes at dismissal. 

Learning Commons News 

LC Lunchtime Club: We are continuing with yarn crafts this week.  All ability levels are welcome to join.  

Mondays:  Grade 6

Tuesdays:  Grade 5  

Wednesdays:  Grades 7-9

Thursdays:  Grade 4 

Riddle-Me-This- How can you get one last chance to win a gift card from an LC contest?  By solving the weekly riddle!  Students can solve the weekly riddle posted in the LC for an extra entry into our last contest of the year.  The draw will take place on June 13.

Year-End Business- It’s time for students to check under their beds, in the depths of their backpacks and in their lockers for their library books.  All books are due for return on June 6th.  Fees will be placed on accounts the following week for items not returned, as they will be assumed to be lost.  If you have any questions, please direct them to Mrs. Litwin in the Learning Commons.  Thank you. 

PAT Exam Schedule 

Grade 9 PAT Parent Exam Notifications (June) 

Sending parents clarification on notifications of students’ attendance during exam days. 

Teachers will be holding tutorials for Gr 9 students in the afternoon on exam days.  If parents choose for their children to study at home in the afternoon, we will require parent permission either by a note sent in to the office, an email to the absence line at mckenziehighlands@cbe.ab.ca, or a phone message left on the absence line at 403-817-3544, (option #1).  

As we have over 195 students in grade 9, we are asking that parents notify the school of this permission at least the day BEFORE exams so students can leave in a timely manner.  If you can please stipulate if you would like the permission to apply for all exam days or specific days. 

Students will have to wait until we can confirm that we have permission from parents before they will be able to leave the school.
