Principal’s Message

It is hard to believe summer holidays are a two weeks away!   We are heading into final summative assignments, projects and unit exams, some of which are Provincial exams for grades 6 and 9. We are messaging to our students and families that we will continue classroom learning until we conclude and celebrate Sports Day (June 25) and last day of classes on June 27 (Friday dismissal).  This is a time of year when teachers provide final opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding, organize amazing off site excursions, and a time when we review key concepts.  We want students to stay the course and finish with their best foot forward.  They are doing great so far!

We recognize our grade 9 students are almost in high school and may wish to have parents excuse them when they finish their PATs, or at the conclusion of their grade 9 farewell celebration on Monday, June 24.  They are getting older, making more informed decisions and assessing their needs more maturely; we leave the decision to excuse, or not, to parents and students.  If you are wanting us to dismiss your child at the end of an exam or special event, a reminder to contact the office or phone the attendance line in advance of the day.  Thank you.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Grade 9 Farewell & Stage Walk

It is that time of year again where we take the opportunity to celebrate and bid farewell to our wonderful Grade 9 cohort.

Please take note of the following important dates and times as well as the logistics involved to make these events a success.

Farewell

  • Date – Thursday, June 20
  • Time – 5:30 to 9:00pm (doors open at 5:00pm)
  • Location – MHS

Please note: Parents are welcome to take pictures outside of the school but only the Gr. 9 students will be allowed into the building for the ‘Dinner & Dance’.

Stage Crossing

  • Date – Monday, June 24
  • Time – 10:30am (doors open at 10:00am)
  • Location – MHS Main Gym

Please note: Due to the City of Calgary fire code we are limited in the capacity that we can accommodate for this event. Every Gr. 9 student will be provided with 2 tickets only for this event that they can distribute to family members. Please keep these tickets in a safe place as they will be required to be presented on the day.

Students will be given their tickets prior to their exam on Thursday, June 13

Classroom Placement 2024-25

We are still in the process of teacher staffing, building timetables and class lists.  Please know that our staff create class lists carefully with the many different needs of our students in mind.  Therefore, no class changes will be considered. Class lists will be finalized and available at the end of August.

Sports Day – June 25

We will be running our annual sports day on Tuesday, June 25.  Our grade 9 Leadership students have been busy at work setting up fun school wide events to take part in. In anticipation of this day, we have invited five food trucks to come join our school: Frozen Assets, Lemon Heaven, The Burrito Mexican Food Truck, Ribo Chicko and Pink Door Pizza. Grade 7 through 9 students will be able to purchase from the trucks from 10:00-11:30, and grade 4 through 6 students will be able to purchase from the trucks from 11:30-1:30.

Members of the community are able to stop by after 1:30 to come purchase from the trucks as well. We are looking forward to this fun end of year celebration!

Summer Reading

Students have many varied responses when asked if they plan to read during the summer.  The answers range can range from a chuckle and eyeroll, to an enthusiastic “Yes!  I can’t wait!” and everything in between.  Here are some ways to make summer reading more inviting.

  • Find a favourite place to read.  In the summer we have the luxury of being able to read outdoors.  So, find a lovely spot under a shady tree, an inviting hammock or a blanket on the beach and get whisked away into an adventure.
  • Read what you like!  If that means reading your favourite Wimpy Kid book for the tenth time, go for it!
  • Try something new.  Visit your public library to see what new books they have from your favourite author or try a new genre that you have always been interested in.
  • Set personal reading goals.  Some students enjoy setting goals for themselves.  If your child has this mindset, allow them to set their own reading goals.  e.g.  read 3 books before September or read 10 minutes per day.
  • Use Mrs. L’s favourite book finder activity to answer questions and find a personalized list of books that are sure to appeal to you! Favourite Book Finder

Year-End Business

Fees for lost library books have been placed on accounts.  Please pay these in a timely manner to ensure replacement books can be purchased for the next school year.  If books are found and returned to us, the fees will be dropped and credits applied if applicable.

Please note that many books that have been used for classroom novel studies have not been added to these fees as their return date deadline is June 15.

If you have any questions, please direct them to Mrs. Litwin at kilitwin@cbe.ab.ca

Stampeders Family Day

Hello MHS Students and Families,

My name is Billy Hale, and I head up our CBE Partnerships with Calgary Sports & Entertainment. We have a special ticket offer for the Stampeders Family Day game on Saturday, June 29! Join us for a fun filled evening with tons of activities at McMahon Stadium while taking in the game!

$5 from every ticket sold from the discounted ticket link HERE , will go directly to the school you select at checkout. Schools that have less than 20 tickets accredited will have the donation pooled and donated back to EducationMatters.

The school that sells the most tickets and tops the leaderboard will win a visit from a Stampeders player and Ralph the Dog! To qualify for the visit, a minimum of 40 tickets sold is required.
