Principal Message
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day
We as a school are recognizing Orange Shirt Day today and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which is on September 30. Students are participating in learning activities today that foster reflection, and a deeper understanding of residential schools, to better understand the history of what happened and the intergenerational trauma caused by residential schools. Our intentions, as we enter into learning about residential schools and other sad chapters in our history, is to foster understanding empathy, and most important, empower students to take action in our society.
We are sharing a few family events happening in Calgary on September 30 – National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, for those who wish to explore further with their children.
Wishing you all a nice weekend.

Fashion Department
The Fashion Department is looking for second hand denim and unused fabric donations…
Send your dusty denim to our Fashion Department! This year in Fashion, we are channeling our creativity and sewing skills into an upcycling project called, How Green Are Your Jeans?
We are looking to collect used clean denim items for this project, as grades 7 - 9 will be participating in designing and fabricating upcycled denim items.
In conjunction with our upcycled denim projects, we will also create new items using patterns. We are inviting community members to send unused fabric our way, if it is taking up space in your house.
Please drop off clean denim and fabric donations to the office.
Thank you for supporting the McKenzie Highland School's Fashion Department!

- In Notes From the Dog by Gary Paulsen, Fin takes on a summer job as a gardener and learns he has a talent for connecting with people.
