Principal Message

Thank you to all the families for coming out to our Meet the Teacher evening and BBQ.  We hope you had a nice evening and an opportunity to meet the wonderful staff at McKenzie Highlands and the amazing physical structure of the school.

It was a very good week at MHS.  Thank you, as always, for supporting our work and programming for students.

Hope to see some new faces at School Council on Monday, September 16.

Upcoming in Athletics

Soccer

Congratulations to the boys & girls who made the 2024 soccer team. Game schedules will be sent home with our athletes, as well as posted onto D2L. Boys’ will practice every Tuesday after school until 4:30, and Girls’ will practice every Monday after school until 4:30 until season end (October 31).

Cross Country

Cross country athletes will have a practice on Monday, as well as their second meet on September 17 at North Glenmore Park.

Basketball

Tryouts will continue this week with the following schedule. Please note afterschool sessions run 3:30-4:45pm, and morning sessions run 7:15am-8:15am:

• Junior Girls final tryout Tuesday after school, practice Thursday after school
• Junior Boys final tryout Wednesday after school, practice Thursday morning 
• Senior Girls will run a practice Monday afterschool, practice Friday morning
• Senior Boys practice/tryout Tuesday, practice Wednesday morning

Terry Fox

On September 20 we will be doing our Terry Fox Run. We will ask all families, who are able, to bring in a Toonie (or more) for Terry which will be collected in homerooms. The homeroom that collects the most Toonies will win a pizza party.

Gym Strip

Thank you to the families who have purchased a gym strip for the current academic year. Please note that gym shorts are on back order, scheduled to arrive end of September, early October. Gym strips can be purchased by adding the t-shirt and/or shorts to your 'cart' in your MyCBE Account.

Learning Commons News

LC Lunchtime Club 

Our clubs have started running during the second half of lunch break in the learning commons.  Students can come in during their designated grade day to play board games or have a quiet place to read.   We will also switch things up regularly with a special activity.  Students can expect to see a return to yoyo skills, holiday crafts, Lego, paper airplane making and yarn crafts.  This year we will also have a battleship tournament, learn how to latch hook and practice some manga-style sketching skills.  

The grade breakdown this year is as follows: 

Mondays:  Grades 7-9 

Tuesdays: Grade 6 

Wednesdays: Grade 5 

Thursdays: Grade 4 

Friday Schedule
