Halloween Dance
On Thursday, October 31 our Halloween festivities will be taking place at school. Students are encouraged to dress up for Halloween, remembering that all costumes must be school appropriate (no masks or weapons). Our festivities will consist of a school dance, a haunted house and a carnival.
Grades 4, 5, & 6 will be invited to participate in a Halloween Carnival organized by the grade 8 Recreation Leadership class. These students will be able to play up to a dozen carnival events to win Halloween treats during the morning of October 31. Students will be able to purchase carnival event tickets for $0.25 each. Students are encouraged to being some cash to play the carnival events and have some Halloween fun. Proceeds from any profit from the event will go to the recreation leadership class and their choice of a charity to donate to.
The Schedule is as follows:
Grades 4-6 will be attending Periods 1-4
Grades 7-9 will be attending Periods 5-6
*Leadership students will be selling pop & chips for $2, for any students who want to purchase a treat, with all proceeds being donated to the Veteran’s Food Bank*
There will be alternate activities taking place in different areas of the school, for those students who don’t want to participate in the Halloween festivities.
Band Fundraiser
A quick reminder to parents that this is the last week of the Purdy’s Band Fundraiser!
Anxiety & Youth Presentation
Parents/Guardians are invited on Wednesday, November 6, at 6:30 for a presentation and discussion around anxiety and youth. Please access Eventbrite to register. Pre-registration is encouraged to assist with planning, but walk ins are welcome as well. This is an important topic as we navigate a post-pandemic social media landscape.
Remembrance Day
Hello! Our Remembrance Day Assembly will be taking place on Thursday, November 7 this year. Parents/guardians are invited to the Remembrance Day Assembly.
If you have photographs of relatives who fought in WWI, WWII, the Korean War, the Cold War, the war in Afghanistan and any other conflicts or ongoing peacekeeping missions that we could include them in our slideshow, it would be most appreciated!
If you'd like to have your relative included, please email us a picture (or pictures) of them and include a short description about where and when they served, any accomplishments or medals received, and any other important information about them. Please also let us know the student and class that they are connected to in our school.
You can send your pictures and information to Angela Rose at aerose@cbe.ab.ca or Karen Porterfield at klporterfield@cbe.ab.ca. The deadline for this is Monday, November 4. Thanks so much for your support!

Name That Monster
Can your child name the 3 monsters in each poem below? If so, they can enter our annual “Name that Monster” contest in the LC. A winner will be drawn from the entries on November 4 and the prize is a $20 Scholastics gift certificate to use at our book fair coming in December.
Monster #1
Some people say I cackle.
I have to say, it’s true.
But I have lots of fun,
When I am stirring up my brew.
Monster #2
I flew to the dentist yesterday
In my favourite bat disguise,
But he could not give me braces
He had nothing in my size.
Monster #3
Some people call me Frankie
But I don’t have lots of mates
Perhaps it’s from my silly walk
Or the screams that I create.
