Remembrance Day

Hello! Our Remembrance Day Assembly will be taking place on Thursday, November 7 this year.

If you have photographs of relatives who fought in WWI, WWII, the Korean War, the Cold War, the war in Afghanistan and any other conflicts or ongoing peacekeeping missions that we could include them in our slideshow, it would be most appreciated!

If you'd like to have your relative included, please email us a picture (or pictures) of them and include a short description about where and when they served, any accomplishments or medals received, and any other important information about them. Please also let us know the student and class that they are connected to in our school.

You can send your pictures and information to Angela Rose at aerose@cbe.ab.ca or Karen Porterfield at klporterfield@cbe.ab.ca. The deadline for this is Monday, November 4. Thanks so much for your support!

Learning Commons News

The battleship tournament continues next week.  It is never too late to join.  The tournament happens during the second half of lunch break in the LC and the grade breakdown is as follows:

Mondays:  Grades 7-9

Tuesdays: Grade 6

Wednesdays: Grade 5

Thursdays: Grade 4

Genre of the Month:  Horror

It is a perfect month to dive into all things scary in the LC.  Whether your child enjoys a scary non-fiction like Haunted Canada, a classic such as Coraline or Frankenstein, or even one of our many scary graphic novels, there’s something for everyone!

Books are a uniquely portable magic.”  - Stephen King

Purdys Band Fundraiser

We're starting our new band fundraiser on October 7 for the year, to raise money for band trips and to support our program. This fundraiser will be for Purdy's Chocolates. The opportunity to go on a band trip is very vital for our students. The fundraiser will run from October 7 – 31. To order, just click the link, register with your email address, and order goodies! Feel free to share the link with friends, family, and co-workers. Our orders will be delivered mid-November (tentatively the week of Nov 14). A pick up announcement will follow closer to the date.

Thank you in advance for helping to support our band students!

School Pick up/Drop Off

As we are starting a new school year, we are reiterating our school policy around the use of the staff parking lot.  There is to be NO drop off or pick up in the school parking lot.  It is not safe for vehicular traffic during school hours or before/after school due to the student population walking through the parking lot.  The handicap parking space is not to be used unless needed for a handicapped/sick/injured student.  Parents are asked to have their students walk to the sidewalk to meet them.

Weather Change – Outdoor Apparel

As the weather is starting to change for the cooler, as fall/winter temperatures set in, students and parents are reminded to make sure students are dressed for the weather.  We are noticing students showing up to school without jackets.  Students can be expected to remain outside for extended periods of time for many different reasons (fire drills, community walks, phys ed class, etc).  By CBE policy, students can be expected to be outside to a temperature of -20 degrees celcius, and should dress accordingly for these instances as the weather changes.
