McKenzie Highlands Fieldtrip Guidelines
We have many upcoming fieldtrips at McKenzie Highlands.
There is a lot of planning that goes into making a fieldtrip for over a hundred students successful.
Teachers have to plan assigned list of students for supervising teachers/volunteers, as well as plan the bus seating so everyone has the best experience possible.
In order to make these trips successful, we need to have all information of students attending well in advance of our fieldtrip.
Please ensure:
- All of R (Acknowledgement of Risk) Fieldtrip Forms are received by the teacher no later than the day before the trip. We are NOT able to accept forms the day of the fieldtrip.
- Field trip payments are made by 3pm the day prior to the fieldtrip; we are not able to process or manage payments the day of the trip.
Unfortunately, students will not be permitted to attend the fieldtrip if we are not in receipt of forms and payments a minimum of 24 hours in advance. Thank you for your understanding of these guidelines and why we need to put them in place.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school.
Calgary Bridge Foundation: After School Program at MHS for First and Second Generation Immigrant Students
Integrating into Canadian culture doesn’t end at the last school bell — give yourself a chance to develop outside of school hours from November to May. By participating in afterschool programs, you’ll make friends, improve your English language skills, participate in fun games and activities and have an opportunity to grow in a safe, supportive space.
Through lesson plans, field trips, guest speakers and public community events, the Afterschool Program looks to connect you to different resources and information about Canada. Our goal is to help each student achieve personal success and increase your participation in both your school and community.
When: Wednesdays @ 3:30 – 5:30pm (November 20 – May)
Where: McKenzie Highlands School

Lunch Club News
Our yoyo club has returned! It was a successful first week of getting acquainted with this classic little toy. Many of the students are eager to start “walking the dog” “rocking the baby” and going “around the world”, but all skill levels are welcome.
Did you know there are many benefits to playing with yoyos? Along with improving dexterity, creativity and concentration, it has also been found to be a great stress reducer!
Please note that the days for our lunch club are now as follows:
Mondays: Grades 5
Tuesdays: Grade 6
Wednesdays: Grade 4
Thursdays: Grade 7-9
Book Highlights
We will continue to highlight historical fiction and narrative style memoirs.
Quote of the week
“Good books shouldn’t be hidden away. They should be read by as many people as many times as possible.” - Alan Gratz (author of many popular historical fiction novels, including Refugee)
