Grade 6 Take Action Fair
We are excited to invite you to the 4th annual Grade 6 Take Action Fair on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, from 1:45 – 2:45 PM in the main gym at McKenzie Highlands School.
The Take Action Fair is the culminating event of an active citizenship initiative that encourages our Grade 6 students to make a difference in their community. As part of their Social Studies and Health curriculum, students have researched important causes, partnered with organizations, and taken action to raise awareness and support.
During the fair, students will be raising funds for their chosen organizations by selling baked goods, food and drink items, homemade crafts, and materials provided by the charities they are supporting. Some students will also be hosting carnival-style games to further their fundraising efforts. Tickets are $1 each and can be purchased with cash outside the entrance to the gym.
All students at McKenzie Highlands will have the opportunity to visit the fair throughout the day, and we welcome families, relatives, and community members to attend during the official public viewing time from 1:45 – 2:45 PM.
We look forward to celebrating our students’ hard work and community spirit. Thank you for your support in helping them make a meaningful impact!

Lost and Found
A final reminder to have your student check the lost and found if they are missing any items. Any unclaimed items will be donated on Thursday, March 20.
Microwave Popcorn Notice
We can no longer allow microwave popcorn in the school setting due to safety considerations. Students are welcome to bring popcorn that is prepared at home, and we also sell regular and flavored popcorn at the school canteen.
Lunch Preparation
The lunch supervisors request you make sure your child is bringing enough food for both lunch and nutrition break. We have many cases where students eat their lunch at the morning break and then are hungry when we get to lunch break. We want to make sure students are fortified for class and safeguard our lunch assistance program for families in need. If you require support with providing lunch, please contact Mr. Martin.
Cell Phone/PED Reminder
Students were reminded this week that personal electronic devices are away for the day and not visible in the school setting. They are powered down and stored in lockers and concealed at dismissal until students exit the school.
Week Ahead in Athletics
With our volleyball season wrapping up, we will be having our wrap up volleyball party at YYC Beach, from 1:00pm-3:00pm on Friday, March 14. We will ask that parents are available to pick up students once we return to MHS, around 3:45pm.
With the current CUPE strike, our upcoming Badminton season is still on hold. All updates will be made available to parents and students as we get closer to the April 1 season start date.
Congratulation to the Junior Boys Volleyball team for their win of the Division Championship last night. It was a tough fought battle for all the boys, lasting three sets. Our boys pulled out this win in the third set, 15 to 12. Congratulations on being the Junior Boys Volleyball Division Champions!!!

Our paper airplane club has taken flight. The excitement in here has been accelerating at maximum intensity and is now set to coast at a steady pitch. In our first week, we navigated our way through kite planes, wide wing gliders and starships, but there are many other fun aircraft models on the horizon. All levels of paper engineers are welcome.
The grade breakdown for lunch club is as follows, and takes place during the second half of lunchbreak:
Mondays: Grades 5
Tuesdays: Grade 6
Wednesdays: Grade 4
Thursdays: Grades 7-9
Search For the Clover
Next week for a little St. Patrick's Day fun, students who wish can search the LC for the 6 hidden 4-leaf clovers. Each one will have a word on it and when students put the words in the correct sentence, they will win a sweet treat. May the luck of the Irish be with you all!
