Principal’s Message

Dear Students and Parents/Guardians of Mr. Lam:

Mr. Lam will be away until at least mid-February and we are fortunate to have Ms. Brooks covering his teaching assignment.  Mr. Lam completed all of the semester 1 report card marks, and for those students in his grade 9 class, please be assured we have enough evidence of student learning to move forward with preliminary high school course recommendations.

If you need to contact Ms. Brooks about your child’s learning, she can be reached at mibrooks@cbe.ab.ca

MHS is excited to have Sarah Adomako-Ansah, education director for the Human Rights Museum, come to provide our teachers with a morning of professional development around anti-racism in education and allyship. This is just one of numerous opportunities that we are proactively engaging with as we continue our focus on diversity, equity and inclusion in order to make our learning environment a safe, caring and welcoming place for all of our students and staff.

Sarah will also be working with our ‘Student Equity Program’ to provide our student leaders with some guidance and inspiration as they continue their work in promoting our message of inclusivity.

I would personally like to extend my gratitude to Sarah, on behalf of our learning community, for her time and commitment in providing these opportunities to the staff and students at MHS.

Mr. Martin, Principal

Book Highlights

Twisted fairy tales continue to take their place in the spotlight next week, and have been very popular with the students.  Below is one of our popular teen books which takes a classic fairy tale and adds a science fiction twist.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer – Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She's a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister's illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai's, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction.
