January - Electronics Recycling Fundraiser

We will be doing a band fundraiser, recycling old/broken technology and electronics. This will take place in the school on January 14 and 15. Please bring in any unwanted tech/electronics to the school on those days, even if it no longer is in working condition. The criteria for electronic drop off is that the item must have been either plugged in, or used batteries (even if the plug is no longer attached). There will be bins in the school entryway to drop these items off.

IMPORTANT CHANGE:

If you have a large drop off (i.e. a truckload) or over-sized items, they can be directly taken to Quantum Recycling. DO NOT Bring over-sized or large appliances to the school. To drop off items at Quantum Recycling, send an email to Logistics.CA@quantumlifecycle.com to book an appointment (appointments are typically between 12pm-3pm). They will only be able to accept drop offs from us after Christmas and until January 16 of January. Make sure you inform them the drop of is for the McKenzie Highlands School Band Fundraiser. Do not just drop off items in the public drop off (otherwise we will not get funds from it). The location is:

Bay 2362880 45 Ave SE, Calgary, Dock Door #50

Thank you for supporting our students and our program!

Book Highlights

This month we are shamelessly hopping on the coattails of a wickedly good movie that’s out right now and are featuring our fractured fairy tales this month.  Here is one of the enchanting twisted tales our collection has to offer.

Egg and Spoon by Gregory Maguire (author of Wicked) - When a train stalls in an impoverished Russian village two girls’ lives collide.  In this dazzling novel for all ages, master storyteller Gregory Maguire interweaves a tale of mistaken identities with a priceless Faberge egg, a crotchety aunt, matryoshka dolls, dragon’s teeth, and a wise-cracking Baba Yaga.

Why read?  “I may not know how to fly but I know how to read, and that’s almost the same thing.”    –Gregory Maguire
